Ogives Big Band is a riff powerhouse hailing from Bristol, UK. Initially forming as an instrumental trio with a view to expand the existing Øgïvęš solo material. Their debut album ‘Boisterous Love’ comes out July 3rd 2024.
Ogives was started as a solo home recording project by guitarist Ben Harris, sporadically recording and releasing ambient and noisy releases from around 2008. It was at a release show for the EP ‘XrmXfrme’ in 2018 where this all changed and the set was split into two halves; one solo and one with a full band. It was at this point that Ogives became a Big Band with the addition of Oli Cocup on drums and Ben Holyoake on bass.
The addition of an established and furious rhythm section warped the compositions and song writing process into a new beast entirely. Featuring polyrhythmic soundscapes crashing into brutal breakdowns, blistering riffs melting into luscious ethereal drones & an all encompassing sense of drive & menace.
2020 saw the addition of a vocalist, Steve Roberts. Ogives Big Band then officially became a 4 piece and this transformed a previously instrumental setup into a much fiercer prospect. Replete with furiously yelled vocals, serene croons & abstract lyricism and wordplay.
Since the recording of Boisterous Love in 2023 a new rhythm section has been introduced; Corey Carruthers Bell on bass and John Stewart on drums. This marks a new creative chapter and a refreshed approach for the band. With the new lineup Corey and John are more involved in the writing process and this has been hugely beneficial. Their vast array of instrumental skill and experience have informed our arrangements and helped us review the songs before we get in the room to play them.
This album showcases a move into whole new musical territories of savage, angular, doom laden sludge, progressive metal and psychedelic stoner rock.
